Critical Evaluation
In forty eight pages, Drowning in a Bottle covers a lot of important ground. It offers first hand accounts from teens affected by alcohol and alcohol abuse throughout each chapter. The print and pictures are eye-catching, almost forcing the reader to look at what is being written which is good. The book discusses consequences of drunk driving, alcohol poisoning, and peer pressure. The stories can be shocking as with a girl who almost died from alcohol poisoning and woke up with tubes down her throat and plugged into machines. Teens may view the book as being "preachy" but sometime preachy is just what they need to understand the consequences.
