Critical Evaluation

The Runaway series of graphic novels is a fun and fast-paced ride through urban streets following six smart, sassy, and sometimes naive teen aged superheroes as they find a way to fight their evil parents. The graphics have a cartoon-like feel with splashes of manga-inspired art. Fans of superhero graphic novels and manga will definitely enjoy especially as the story unfolds and the teens discover how to use their superpowers. The characters are well-developed as they struggle with discovering their parents' betrayal and learn to live in the world on their own. They develop strong friendships with each other and question each others loyalty along the way. There are even surprise appearances by a few classic Marvel superheroes. To thoroughly enjoy these characters journey it is recommended to read all seven books in the series in chronological order.
